![]() ![]() The FireGL is not the best graphics card for a G4. The FireGL has a way better cooling-system but you need at least a 400W PSU because it sucks power. The standard Radeon 9700/9800 cards tend to overheat in an MDD case because they have a weak stock fan. I don't think a G5 could be that compatible.Īll PPC games work on this machine - some are a bit laggy - but Prey for example runs pretty nice. Both DVI ports are functional.Īs mentioned before, I installed 4 HD's into the machine - one for Panther, one for Tiger - one for Leopard and the MDD can also boot into OS9 - I added a PCI graphics card for 3D acceleration in OS9. I flashed it with a reduced ATI X800 XT ROM file. The FireGL X3-256 delivers best performance for AGP 4x Macs, plus it supports Panther. GAMING ON A MAC G4 INSTALLPPC is just finally coming to an end, especially with leopard having issues with quite a few Mac tittles that will probably never be revived again unless you install Tiger. Though Prey came out to be a nice port, everything else I listed is 2x more performance in Windows.atleast. Play the other games I listed above in Windows. GAMING ON A MAC G4 PROJust Leave the G4 as a OS9 Potential Gamer, and throw in a 9800 Pro and make the best of it. Especially if you are playing at 1680 or 1920 resolutions. For a PPC "Retro-Collector-Etc" MOSX gamer, I would suggest nothing less than a Dual 2.5Ghz G5. ![]() Got the FireGL pretty cheap on ebay - retail version costs about 800 bucks - maybe a bit of an overkill, but it is powerful enough to cope with most of the apps & games that are available for PPC out there.Īt lower resolutions with mediocre settings for these titles: Tron, D3, Quake 4, Prey, and probably a few others that have hind-sighted my mind. The thing runs stable 57 degrees celsius. GAMING ON A MAC G4 MODI also installed a cooling mod from verax to cool the CPU PSU more efficiently and I added a new 120mm fan with 130CFM to the guts of the machine.
